Butter Keeper – Horizon glaze
A French-style butter keeper, wheel-thrown in stoneware. The base holds a little water, the bell-shaped lid keeps the butter submerged and airtight, so your butter stays fresh on the counter, soft and ready to use, without going anywhere near the fridge.
The glaze is what makes this one. Cream at the top, melting into olive green through the middle, deepening into dark brown at the bottom, with drips where the layers blur and bleed into each other on the way down. It looks like a horizon line, or a landscape seen from a distance. The lid is glazed smooth and pale on top, with the same layered transition wrapping around the bell underneath.
How it works
Pack softened butter into the lid, fill the base with a small amount of cold water, and put the lid back on. The water seal keeps air out and butter fresh for up to two weeks at room temperature. Keep away from direct sunlight. Change the water every few days and you're done!

Butter that's always ready
Cold butter tears bread. This fixes that, and it looks much better on the table than a plastic container.
